LiDAR Technology
LiDAR, a technology that has been using since the 1960s. LiDAR
stands for light detection and ranging. What do these technical terms mean?
In simple words, it’s laser scanning or 3D scanning. This technology uses
laser beams to create a 3D visualization
of the surrounded environment. An advanced technology that is implemented in self-driven cars and many other things too.
How it works and some
application
Lidar technology basically it senses the surrounding by its remote sensing ability. Consider the device with the feature of lidar. Its sensor emits the pulses commonly known as radiation through which it senses the obstacle or object around it. The pulses hit the object and it bounces back to the emitter or sensor and by estimating the time and distance traveled by each pulse. With the repetition of all this process, multiple times develops safe navigation.
This technology is workable in large-scale industries such as airplanes to read and detect topographical data and also used for bathymetric data for sea depth.
Lidar in iPhone
Lidar scanner in iPhone 12, yes you read it correct that
iPhone has introduced this technology in their phones. In the phones the Lidar features are quite different,
it is featured in the rear camera of the iPhone a small dot through which it is
possible to measure the depth and lengths. It is the big step toward augmented
reality and some extent to photography.
This technology is featured in various iPhone models such as the lidar scanner in iPhone 12 pro and also in the iPhone 11.
Lidar technology has been introduced earlier in iPad pro
with its amazing features in gaming such as hot lava. Hope this game is
experienced by most of the reader.
Are there any other
lidar scanner phones?
There are phones with some feature of lidar but not all.
Google phones such as Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus and galaxy s20 ultra uses the
AR core depth with some interesting features which are already used as AR in
Snapchat and a popular game of Pokemon.
Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phone doesn’t operate Lidar
it has its own technology which they proposed earlier such as Tango and likely
to expand and innovate something more advanced than LiDAR.
LiDAR feature in real
life
Lidar is the updated feature of augmented reality and widely
used with interesting features in apps such Hot lava and AR gaming and also in
the application of IKEA which is quite helpful to arrange the furniture and frames in our homes.
The most advanced feature of LiDAR is in the self-driven
cars without the need of drivers. It develops real-time navigation with its
advanced features such as collecting the data with the 3D perspectives and helps
in the engineering science too. Good LiDAR sensor emits laser beams around 8 to
128 to collect the most accurate data.
